...HardWoods are simply the woods of deciduous trees. They are not necessarily hard, some softwoods are harder than hardwoods. HardWoods are often far more expensive than SoftWoods. I think because they grow slower, have to be grown responsibly nowadays and have to be shipped from faraway overseas. The exception to this was the aftermath of the Great Storm in 1987, when an enormous number of English Oaks were felled.
