...Most of my work involves working with SoftWoods. Although I have noticed an increase in my working with HardWoods in the last year.

...SoftWoods are the woods of Coniferous Trees. They can be harder, and more expensive than, HardWoods. One greatly favoured SoftWood is North American Pitch Pine. This is a very tough wood. Often pallets, packing crates and doors were made of Pitch Pine. I have seen a Shaker style bed for sale in Upper Street, Islington at £1000, made of Pitch Pine. It can be a very expensive wood. One can make woodblock floors out of it as well as flooring boards. Other SoftWoods are Baltic Pine, Scots Fir, the North American Big Trees, Sequoia; obviously this wood is very rare now as, quite rightly, felling of them is only carried out for safety and resource management reasons. The new forestry initiative of President Bush may alter the situation, although I hope not.
